The Clam Bucket
About This Spot
Stepping into The Clam Bucket in Port Alberni feels like settling into a cherished local refuge where the pace slows just enough to savor both the view and the food. Nestled along Victoria Quay, this is the kind of spot where the hum of casual chatter mixes with the gentle clinking of glasses and the occasional burst of laughter from family groups or friends sharing a meal. Its unpretentious, cozy atmosphere invites diners to unwind—a place both familiar and full of the quiet joy that comes from indulging in well-loved coastal flavors.
Here, the essence of the Pacific Northwest’s seafood culture gently unfolds on a menu that feels familiar, yet thoughtfully varied. Plates arrive generously portioned, whether it’s a crisp, golden fish and chips or a rich, heartwarming bowl of clam chowder that seems to capture the misty mornings of Vancouver Island in every spoonful. The food carries with it a sense of tradition alongside unexpected touches—a seafood platter for two invites shared stories, while creative takes like the teriyaki burger or shrimp wrap offer a playful nod to inspired comfort food. Each dish feels like it’s meant to be enjoyed slowly, paired with friendly service that makes you feel part of a community rather than just a customer.
The dining room’s welcoming energy is reflected in the smiles exchanged among patrons and staff, with moments of lightheartedness weaving easily through the experience. Whether settling in on the sunny patio or inside where the décor lends itself to casual conversations, there’s a warmth that makes you want to linger over a fresh Caesar salad or a sample platter with a thoughtfully crafted drink in hand. This is a place where meals become moments—simple yet full, offering a genuine taste of Port Alberni’s maritime spirit.

Absolutely amazing fish and chips. I would go back simply for it. It's humongous and delicious and absolutely worth the price.

Beer battered Fish tacos and Caesar salad. Just do it! If you’re passing through make sure you stop here for something to eat! Patio was nice on a late sunny afternoon service was so fast (even though we basically had this place to ourselves) 10/10

I went to The Clam Bucket for my birthday. They ran out of mussels so I was unable to get the original dish I wanted that we drove to Port Alberni for which was the mussel and clam bucket. Our server was great, and the food was amazing. I had the seafood platter for 1 and my partner had the teriyaki burger with yam fries. The burger was amazing and I highly suggest it. The fish bowl drink that I can't remember the name of was really good. Very sweet which I loved. The salad that came with my seafood dish was a little weird. The cucumbers were BIG chunks rather than cut up pieces. We look forward to going back in the future to try more options.

Stopped here for lunch on the way back from Ucluelet to Nanaimo. Nice cozy place with plenty of tables. Had the half-Calamari and Caesar Salad combo. The Calamari was nice and lightly breaded but still had a good crisp. Caesar was fresh lettuce and well-coated with dressing and cheese. Waitresses were friendly and smiling. I enjoyed the decor, including laughing at a sign between the washrooms that said "Men are to the left because women are always right!" Would recommend stopping here for anyone heading to/from Ucluelet and/or Tofino.

A fun and genuine place to enjoy sea food - obviously the clams are the highlight, but the menu is really interesting and has all the local fish on it. Large portions. You can also expect quite substantial cocktails. Great value, good fun!

One of the best restaurants in Port Alberni, if not the best. Amazing, fast, friendly service and massive portions. Come very hungry or ready to take half of your plate home with you. The fish and chips are excellent, as is the shrimp club salad. This is a great place to bring the whole family, eclectic funky decor.

Ridiculous sized portions! Had the classic artery burger and nealy had a coronary! It's way too big for most - I'm not ashamed to say i couldn't finish it. Very tasty. Calamari was ok, would be better having a bit more cruch. Coleslaw was good, pretty standard. Little shrimpies were very good. Everyone enjoyed their meal so - Recommended!
